Sutton travelled to March looking to continue their recent good form with 2 changes from last week; Adam Taylor and Will White absent with Frazer Watt and Troy Croxford stepping in. March had a strong squad and started well, taking the game to Sutton. This unsettled the Sutton side and March's intensity soon created chances and from one of these they took the lead with a clinical finish that gave Sisson in goal no chance. 1-0 became 2-0 as March pushed on to add to their advantage. It was at this time that Clarke in the Sutton defence remembered he had left the kettle on the stove so needed to go home and take it off! Sutton rejigged and set about playing the remaining 29 minutes of the first half with 10 men, Ed White and Fox resetting the midfield with able support from Ben Hales, Josh Smith and Troy Croxford, Hagan putting a massive shift in to assist the defence, Batten linked well and Watt was immense as the Libero at the back with what was probably his best ever performance for the team especially as he had to limp his way through most of it. Baguley as ever was imperious at centre back and slowly the team started to move from containment to attack and shortly before half time Batten finished after good work by Ed White. Half Time 1-2. Sutton regrouped at half time and restored to 11 players on the pitch looked to get back to parity at the start of the second half; however March were not done and soon restored their 2 goal margin as the task ahead of Sutton grew again. To be fair to the league leaders they were not deterred and gradually built more and more pressure – Watt and Baguley continued to repel March's less frequent attacks, White and Fox controlled midfield and Smith, Hales and Croxford put in fantastic shifts for the team cause. With 20 minutes to go, Hagan worked to fashion an opportunity that White finished well and all of a sudden the deficit was 1 goal. Sutton pushed on for an equaliser and with ten minutes to go, a Hagan goal bound shot was blocked illegally and Canham despatched the resultant flick – all square with 10 minutes to go! March tried to regroup, but Sutton were definitely on a roll and with 5 minutes to go Hagan worked the ball to Batten at the top of the D and he struck the best hit of the match to finish into the top corner of the net past the diving keeper. 4-3 to Sutton. March came back and Sutton worked hard to defend their lead culminating two minutes from time when a March shot looked to be looping up over Sisson and yet he stretched and reached it with his glove to bat it away and ensure the 3 points were taken back to Lincolnshire. A fantastic fighting performance from the team with every player contributing, Man of the Match for his heroic performance as the Monty Python Black Knight was Frazer Watt who was unbelievable today. Ha and the rest of his team mates certainly earned their week off next week!
