With 4 games to go until the end of the season Sutton travelled to second place Peterborough knowing that they could be heroes as a win would secure the title. Sutton made changes with a 13 man squad as Adam Taylor returned to the fold after a spell training for the Winter Olympics. Sutton came prepared for a tough game and started very well by taking the game to Peterborough -this seemed to rock Peterborough as they struggled to get out of the blocks and it was not long before excellent play from Will White and Hagan provided Canham with the chance to take the lead. 1-0 Sutton pushed on and it was wham, bam, thank you ma'am as Ed White made it 2-0 following good work from Fox, then Hagan played Canham in for his second and made it 3-0. Fox provided for Batten to make it 4-0 from a deflected finish and then in a family affair Ed White played in Will White who scored a goal of the season contender to make it 5-0 before 20 minutes had been played! At the back Sisson was untroubled, Baguley bossed the Peterborough forwards and Hales continued to impress as did Smith, Clarke swept all in front of him and Taylor continued his fine season. Watt as always put in his hard working performance that he does every week; one of the teams unsung heroes. Sutton continued to push before half time and Fox added a sixth after Hagan had provided; as well as scoring a seventh after Josh Smith passed him in. The second half was an anti-climax after the work for the day had clearly been done in the first half. Just after the restart Peterborough made it 7-1. Sutton struggled to raise their game again and whilst they toiled to add to their margin it never really came, other than Will White scoring his second stunning goal of the game from a Canham pass to make it 8-1. Two stunning goals in the match from Starman White, both of which would be goal of the season contenders. The final goal of the game went to Peterborough, to make the final score 8-2 to Sutton. Wrapping up three points and securing the title with three games spare; clearly these teammates have all enjoyed golden years this season! Once again the team played some quality hockey; it speaks volumes that the goals were shared between five different players and some of the lead up play left Peterborough trying to put out fires. This Peterborough side is a good side, they are second in the table, not absolute beginners but Sutton dominated from the start of the game. The side has grown together over the season and to its credit delivered on the pitch the promise it looked to have back in September. Each player who has turned out has played a positive part in the sides result and next year hopefully the side will look to build on this years fame.
